  • Repair Permissions on the drive you will install to.
  • If you will do an Update installation (the default, quickest and easiest, but can develop problems) make sure that you remove APE and any haxies, as well as input managers like SAFT, etc.
  • If you Archive and Install, choose Preserve Users and Network Setting, for the easiest transition. This has been known to create issues, if there are incompatibilites or corrupt preference files. If you have issues, you can re-install not selecting Preserve Users and Network Setting, and re-create them.
  • If you Erase and Install, you will be able to Migrate your files back to your Leopard disk. Again, incompatible or corrupt files can cause problems. You can also move data by hand, and reinstall your apps (with the app's installer) and recreate your User settings for the safest, if most time consuming installation.

Each of these methods have been used with - and without - problems. I will report my personal experiences as time goes on, and any reports I find in the main section of this page.

comment authored by: kenm22 on Tuesday, October 30 2007:
I wonder how many of these problems could be avoided by a completely clean installation of Leopard and a new installation of those applications which use an installer. The only applications that I would drag over from Tiger are those that do not use an installer. More work, yes. Less problems, definitely yes.
